Mixing of Classes

As a school we take great pride in supporting all of our pupils to develop and grow during their time with us.  Prior to pupils joining in Reception, we visit the new pupils in their current nursery, pre-school setting or at home.  This helps us to have some initial insight into their needs and some of the friendship groups with other children that also have secured a place at the school.

For several years now, we have undertaken a shuffle of the classes after Reception and before commencing Year 1.  This is to provide the best possible class environments for our pupils and their learning whilst recognising the dynamics and any adjustments that need to be considered.

We take into consideration the needs of each child, and the class cohort, to ensure we are supporting everyone as best we can. We consider the relationships that children have with each other and reflect on how these relationships may have changed over time.

To maintain the best possible balance and dynamic for pupils, we may take the decision to review the class set up at a later stage of your child’s journey through school.  If we decide to mix the cohort of children this will be done with the best possible intentions and most appropriate outcomes for all individual pupils.
